It escalated to multinational bio-chemical bombing. Viruses went airborne, and began infecting the population immediately. The viruses that were unleashed during the bombing were almost the same across every nation. Due to a UN treaty signed previously, every strand of the virus deactivated after 72 hours. Unfortunately, that was long enough to wipe out 97% of the world's population. [break][break]
There were no antidotes developed for the viruses, so once a person was infected, there was no chance of them surviving. Within hours, the infected was deceased. It is not known why, but a vary small percentage of children and teenagers seemed immune to the viruses. Those children and teens (a total of 3% of the world's population) were the only survivors left after the bombings. [break][break]
Now, it has been almost 2 years since the bombings. In the city of Brookfield a rather large group of survivors have gathered together and formed a sort of new civilization. Every one of them is now age 21 or younger, but that hasn't stopped progress. These kids and young adults have broken off into tribes, based upon their strengths, morals, and other factors. [break][break]
Currently, the tribes have just gotten the water system running again, and the same with the electrical grid. There are still some flaws, but at least the electric grid is running off of wind and solar energies! The Bug tribe did their best to ensure that all will go smoothly with the power from here on out, while still trying to make a better world for the future.
[attr="class","fortine-2"] May 14th, 2012[attr="class","fortine-3"] Brookfield is coming to terms with the new definition of normality. Ever since the bombings in the summer of 2010, the world has been in chaos. But Brookfield has risen from the ashes of a broken world, and the city is now a thriving community. [break][break]
With all but one resident age 22 and younger, the city had to work together and combine knowledge and resources in order to survive the events that are now seen as an apocalypse. Tribes were formed, a new government was created, and currently, the residents of Brookfield are celebrating the fact that they are alive. [break][break]
Brookfield defied all odds of survival, but at what cost? The city has been cut off from the world around it since the bombs dropped, with only small numbers of refugees joining their ranks. How long will it be until their limited resources run out? The festivities that are going on do little to ease the minds of some residents. A few leaders are pushing for a chance to reach out and rediscover the world around them. [break][break]
What is going to happen next? Join a tribe and find out!
[attr="class","fortine-2"] September 29th, 2012[attr="class","fortine-3"] The expedition has come and gone. Seven of the city's citizens, including a couple tribe leaders and the city leader, went out looking for whatever they could find. The only thing that turned up on their month and a half journey outside the city limits was another farm. At least they didn't run into the monsters that have been rumored to be out there, right? [break][break]
The people of Brookfield are uneasy with all the rumors. Monsters, devils, and even snakes are said to be roaming the streets in the town and near by. How much of it is just rumor, and how much is based in fact? Even the editor of the Circular can't separate that out, and it's her job to dig for the truth! [break][break]
The bugs are working to get telephones working again, the hospital is up and running, and piece by piece the town is returning to a pre-war state of normalcy. But how easily can it all come crashing down? The residents are afraid that they may be finding out sooner than wish, if all the rumors are true.
[attr="class","fortine-2"] January 31st, 2015[attr="class","fortine-3"] In the end of November 2012, the Hellhounds tried to invade Brookfield with little success. Infighting brought the group to it's ultimate end. However, this was not before they murdered and tortured some of the city and tribe leaders. [break][break]
Degenerative Immune System Disease (DISD) tore through the town around August 2103, targeting younger children, but the Falcons worked tirelessly and were able to come up with an effective treatment to do away with DISD. [break][break]
As a result of the Hellhound invasion, a gate was placed around the city in October 2013. The Lions tribe was created to help screen newcomers to the city in an effort to keep the citizens safe. The Wolves took the responsibility of guarding the four entry points to the gates. [break][break]
In December 2013 a housing complex was destroyed in a fire. On Christmas day that same year, someone bombed town hall, destroying the building. There have been no leads on either catastrophe, and it is unknown if they were linked. [break][break]
In early February 2014, the city was plunged into a blackout when one of the Bugs was working on a project that wiped out the power grid. On the fourteenth of that month, while the power was still out, United States soldiers occupied Brookfield. They came looking for a scientist, Dr. Valentine. They found his dead body in a bunker months later. Before this discovery, they imposed curfews and they executed the same Bug for another accident where he killed a soldier. The Bug had managed to electrify the fence, and they left it that way as a means to control the citizens while they were still searching. [break][break]
The soldiers finally left in June 2014, after Leo, the city leader, shot the General. Leo was taken prisoner but the fence was no longer electrified. They also left the city with a working phone system as a way to make up the things they had done. The soldiers went back to their base at Camp David, but a few stragglers stuck around. [break][break]
Leo has returned, but the fate of city leader is still undetermined. The city is still picking up the pieces of what happened. So many people have become broken in a sense, but there is hope still. They just have to dig deep enough to find it.
[attr="class","fortine-2"] April 18th, 2023 [attr="class","fortine-3"] WWIII occurred from May through July 2010. It has been 13 years, and in most places that have been settled by groups of survivors, humanity has bounced back. The world will never be the same, and some things are gone for good. Brookfield and Coral Island have been thriving, both cities maintaining power grids, clean running water, and redeveloping an economic system that is compatible with the wider world of surviving communities around them.
